Signing in and security

How signing in works, two step verification, your signed in devices, privacy choices, and deleting your account.

Signing in

Facet has no passwords. Type your email on the sign in page and Facet sends you a link: open it, and you are in. It works on another device too, so you can type your email on your laptop and open the link on your phone.

  • Only the newest link works. Asking for another one retires the one before.
  • A link works once, and expires after a while. An old link says so and lets you ask for a new one.
  • Continue with Google works too.
  • If your company has set up company sign in, typing your work email takes you to your company's own sign in instead.

Signing in takes you back to where you were going. Open a link to a project or a settings page while signed out, sign in, and you land on that page rather than the dashboard.

Signing in stays signed in. You are only asked again if you sign out, or if the account is no longer recognised.

Opening in stages

New accounts are opening in stages. If sign in says your email has not been added yet, join the waitlist at join.facet3d.studio.

Two step verification

Two step verification asks for a six digit code from an authenticator app as well as your email link, so your account stays safe even if someone gets into your inbox. It is off until you turn it on.

Turn it on

  1. Open Settings, Security, and turn on Two step verification.
  2. Scan the QR code with an authenticator app, such as 1Password, Google Authenticator or Authy. If you cannot scan it, enter the key by hand.
  3. Type the six digit code from the app.
  4. Save your recovery codes: copy them or download them, and keep them somewhere safe. They are shown once.

From then on, Facet asks for a code from your app after the email link. Until the code is entered, nothing in your account can be read or changed, not even by the app itself.

Recovery codes

You get ten. Each works once, and using one turns two step verification off, so losing your phone never means losing your account. Sign in with your email link, choose Use a recovery code, and you are back in. Set two step verification up again afterwards.

You can make a fresh set of codes at any time in Settings, Security, which retires the old set.

Facet emails you when two step verification is turned on or off, and when a recovery code is used.

Your devices

Settings, Security lists every device you are signed in on. Sign one out from there if you no longer use it, or if it is not yours.

Signing out signs out only the device you are on.

Privacy and cookies

The first time you open Facet, a small card asks whether we may count how the product is used. Nothing is counted until you choose.

  • What we count, if you agree: which features get used and where things go wrong, such as a publish that fails or a page that is slow to open. It stays on our own servers. No advertising trackers, nothing sold, and your IP address is not stored.
  • If your browser sends Global Privacy Control, nothing is counted.
  • Your choice belongs to your account, so it follows you to other devices.
  • Change it at any time from Cookie preferences, in the account menu or the editor menu.

See the privacy policy for the details.

Deleting your account

Open Settings and choose to delete your account. Type your email address to confirm.

  • Your account locks straight away and your published projects go offline.
  • Nothing is deleted for 15 days. Contact support before then and your account comes back exactly as it was, with your plan renewing again. Support opens from the sign in page for an account waiting to be deleted, without signing in.
  • After 15 days, your account is deleted for good, with your projects, models, images, environments and thumbnails.

Facet emails you when the deletion is scheduled, if it is cancelled, and when it is done.
