Projects and the dashboard

Making, finding and organising your projects, and what lives in the dashboard around them.

The dashboard at use.facet3d.studio is home: your projects in the middle, your workspaces and favourites down the side.

Make a project

Press New. A new project opens in the editor as Untitled, already lit. Click its name at the top left of the editor to rename it.

How many projects you can have depends on your plan: one on Free, and up to fifty on Radiance. Every project you own counts, wherever it is. A project you delete stops counting straight away. See Plans and pricing.

Project cards

Each card shows the last saved view of the scene, with who can see it at the top left and the name and last edit at the bottom left. Click a card to open it.

Open a card's menu for:

ActionWhat it does
RenameChange its name
ShareInvite someone to this project, without opening it. See Share a project.
DuplicateMake a copy. You are asked for a name, with the old one plus _copy already filled in. The copy keeps the thumbnail.
Move to workspacePut it in one of your workspaces. See Workspaces.
DeleteMove it to the archive. See below.

Favourites

Press the bookmark on a card to add it to Favs in the sidebar. To mark several at once, use the + beside Favs, which shows every project you can open as a grid of thumbnails. Right click a favourite in the sidebar to open, share, rename or remove it.

Deleted projects and the archive

Deleting a project does not delete it. It moves to the Archive for 28 hours, where one click brings it back, exactly as it was. After that it is deleted for good, with its files.

  • Open the archive from the account menu, under your avatar.
  • An archived project leaves every list, its public link stops working, and it no longer counts towards your plan, so deleting to make room works at once.
  • A project deleted from a workspace goes to that workspace's archive, where anyone who can edit the workspace can bring it back. Only the workspace owner can delete it for good before the 28 hours are up.

Versions of a project

A project can hold several versions of the same idea, V1, V2 and so on, for example a cube for the header and a blue cube for the footer. The version chip sits next to the project name in the editor: click it for the list, press + for a new one.

  • A new version starts as a copy of the version you are looking at.
  • You can give each version a name. The number never changes, so links and embeds always mean the same thing.
  • Each version saves, publishes and keeps its own history on its own.
  • Free projects can have 2 versions, Radiance projects up to 10. A version does not count as an extra project.

This is different from the automatic history, which is for going back in time on one version.

Shared with me

Projects other people have shared with you appear in a Shared with me row above your own. A project in a workspace you belong to appears in that workspace instead.

The sidebar

  • Your space is your own projects.
  • Workspaces lists every workspace you own or belong to. The gear on a row opens its settings. See Workspaces and seats.
  • Favs is your favourites.

Click a section's heading to fold it away. The sidebar remembers how you left it. The button at the top of the sidebar folds the whole thing down to icons; point at an icon to see its name.

The sidebar also shows how much of your project allowance is left. In the last tenth it turns red and offers the way past it.

Around the dashboard

  • Activity, behind the bell: likes on your projects, new followers, and replies from support. A red dot marks anything new, and reading it on one device clears it on all of them.
  • Announcements and What is new carry news from the team.
  • Community shows public projects from everyone on Facet. You can like a project and follow the person who made it.
  • Explore, on your home dashboard, holds guided tutorials when there are some. A tutorial opens a scene where everything works and nothing saves, so you can try things freely.
  • Feedback sends a note straight to the team. You can send one an hour.
  • Get help opens the support panel. See Get help.
  • More holds Blog and News, About, the legal pages and your cookie choices.

Install Facet as an app

Facet can sit in your dock or taskbar like a desktop app. Use the install button on the dashboard: it opens your browser's own install prompt, or says which menu to use if your browser has none. There is nothing to download.

Going over your plan's allowance

If you have more projects than your plan allows, for example after a paid plan ends, nothing is deleted. Your most recently edited project stays editable and the others open read only, until you upgrade or archive some.
