Your first scene
From an empty project to a lit, finished scene you can send to someone, in about ten minutes.
This walk through uses a primitive, but every step works the same with an SVG logo or your own model.
Go to use.facet3d.studio and type your email. Facet sends you a link: open it and you are in. There is no password to remember. You can also continue with Google.
The first time, Facet asks for a username and a profile picture, then takes you to your dashboard.
Opening in stages
Facet is opening to new people in stages. If sign in says your email has not been added yet, join the waitlist at join.facet3d.studio and we will let you know.
Make a project
On the dashboard, press New, or the Create your first project card if you have no projects yet. The editor opens on an empty scene with the studio light already on.
Click the name at the top left to give the project a name. From here on, everything saves by itself.
Build
- Add a shape. Press Primitives in the top bar and pick one, say a Rounded Box. The panel stays open so you can add more.
- Shape it. With the shape selected, its settings appear: width, height, depth, fillet and the rest. Drag a value, or double click it to type an exact number.
- Place it. Press T to move, R to rotate and S to scale, then drag the handles. Hold Shift to snap.
Bring your own
Copy an SVG from Figma or Illustrator and press Ctrl V in the editor: it becomes a 3D object straight away. Drop a GLB, OBJ, FBX or DAE file on the editor to import a model.
Give it a look
- Material. Press M. In Textures, set the base colour, then roughness and metallic. Low roughness and full metallic reads as polished metal. For glass, open Advanced, then Glass, and raise Transmission. See Materials.
- Environment. Open Environment in the left column and pick an HDRI. Metal and glass reflect their surroundings, so they look flat until there is something to reflect. See Environment and background.
- Light. Open Studio Light and try a mood, such as Sunset or Rim. Drag the ball to move the light. See Lights.
- Finish. Open Post FX and switch on Glow and Grain, or a little Depth of Field. See Post FX.
Frame it
Orbit until you like the view. The view you leave the scene on is the one visitors arrive on. To keep a view you can come back to, open the camera menu and add a camera, and pick a lens while you are there. See Cameras.
Share it
- An image. Press Render, choose Image, a resolution and a quality, and Render image. You can download it or copy it straight to the clipboard, ready to paste into Figma or a slide. See Render images and video.
- A live link. Press Publish, choose who can see it, and publish. You get a page of its own and the code to embed it in your site. See Publish.
