Primitives
Eleven ready made shapes you can add in one click and reshape with sliders.
Press Primitives in the top bar to open the shape palette. Click a tile to add that shape to the middle of the scene. The palette stays open, so you can add several in a row.
The eleven shapes are Cube, Sphere, Hexagon, Tube, Cylinder, Holed Hexagon, Pyramid, Prism, Rounded Box, Cone and Octahedron.
Shaping a primitive
Select a primitive and its settings appear in the Primitive panel. Each shape has the settings that make sense for it:
| Setting | What it changes | Shapes |
|---|---|---|
| Width, Height, Depth | Size along each side | Cube, Rounded Box, and the height of most others |
| Radius | How wide a round shape is | Sphere, Hexagon, Tube, Cylinder, Cone, Pyramid, Prism, Octahedron |
| Thickness | The wall of the tube | Tube |
| Hole | The size of the hole | Holed Hexagon |
| Fillet | How rounded the edges are | Cube, Rounded Box, Hexagon, Tube, Holed Hexagon, Prism, Cylinder |
| Segments | How smooth curves are, or how many steps a shape has | Most shapes |
| Detail | How many faces the shape is built from | Octahedron |
| Squash | Pinches the shape at the middle, or swells it | Every shape |
Every change is live and can be undone. Double click a value to type an exact number.
Rounded edges catch the light
A fillet of even a small amount gives a cube a highlight along every edge, which is what makes it read as a real object rather than a box on a screen. Rounded Box starts with one.
What to do next
- Give it a surface in Materials.
- Repeat it with a cloner. Hold C with it selected.
- Press a relief into it with a stamp.
A connected AI can add and reshape primitives for you too, using exactly these shapes and ranges.
