Publish

Put the live scene on a page of its own, decide who can see it and what visitors can do, and get the code to embed it.

Part ofRadiance

Press Publish in the top bar. The Publish panel has three tabs: Info, Perfs and Settings.

Info

  • Who can open it: Private, only you. Anyone with the link, unlisted. Public, which can also appear in the community. A private project has no page, so choose one of the other two before you publish.
  • Publish puts the current scene live. After the first time the button reads Update.
  • Unpublish takes the page and the embed offline. The project itself is untouched, and you can publish again at any time.

Once published, the panel shows the address, when it last went out, and two tabs:

  • Public link: the page's address, with Copy.
  • Embed: the snippet for your own site, with Copy snippet. See Embed on your site.

You need a username to publish, because it is part of the address. Set one in Settings.

Publishing is a snapshot

Publishing copies the scene as it is at that moment. Keep working and visitors still see the published version, until you press Update. The panel tells you when there are changes that are not live yet.

The address

A published project lives at:

https://share.facet3d.studio/@your-username/project-name

The address follows the project's name. Rename the project and the address changes with it, and old links keep working: they forward to the new one, so nothing you have shared ever breaks.

Pasting the link into Slack, iMessage, X or anywhere with link previews shows a picture of your scene.

Settings

Viewer can

Switch
Orbit & rotate the cameraVisitors can drag to turn the view
Zoom in / outVisitors can zoom
Move objectsVisitors can pick up and move things
DriftA slow idle motion that follows the cursor, so the scene is never completely still
Display Facet brandingThe small Made with Facet mark. Turning it off needs Radiance.

All of them start off, so a new page is a still view until you choose otherwise. On a phone with Drift on, a finger drags the scene softly instead of orbiting it, and the page still scrolls when the scene has nothing to do.

Community

  • Show in community lists the published version on the community page. The community always shows the published version, never your draft. The project needs to be public, and published.
  • Let people clone it lets others copy the scene into their own account to learn from it.

These two take effect straight away, with no need to publish again.

Embed

  • Load 3D decides when the scene starts loading on a page it is embedded in: When visible, On interaction, or Instantly. When visible is the default and the best for most pages.
  • Viewer sharpness trades sharpness for smoothness on older devices. Lower is smoother.

Settings changes go live with the next publish.

Perfs

Perfs checks how heavy the scene is for visitors before you publish: its weight in megabytes, a speed score out of 100, and the number of objects, clone copies, polygons, images and effects that are on. Anything heavy is flagged, with advice on what to lighten. Press Run check to measure again.

The share page

Visitors see the scene full screen with your name, a like button and a follow button. Signed in visitors see their own account in the corner. Visitors who are not signed in see Join waitlist and Log in, and logging in brings them straight back to your scene.

The share page works on phones, and picks the right breakpoint for the screen.

Versions

Each version of a project, V1, V2 and so on, publishes on its own, with its own page and embed. Making a new version never changes what an existing page or embed shows.

Plans

Publishing is part of Radiance.
