3D models
Bring in your own models from Blender, Cinema 4D, a CAD tool or a model library.
Facet imports GLB, GLTF, OBJ, FBX and DAE files.
Import a model
Drop the file onto the editor. A short dialog asks how it should come in:
| Option | What it does |
|---|---|
| Longest side becomes | The size it arrives at: Small, Default, Large or Huge. |
| Normalize size | Scales it to that size. Off keeps the file's own units, which for a CAD export can be enormous. |
| Sit on the ground | Rests its base on the floor. Off centres it on the middle of the scene instead. |
| Generate UVs when missing | Adds texture coordinates to parts that have none, so a material with a texture can go on. Parts that already have them are left alone. |
| Rebuild normals | Works out the shading again. Try it if the model looks faceted or black. It softens edges that were meant to be sharp, so it starts off. |
Press Import. Facet remembers your choices for next time, and Reset puts them back.
You can also press Import in the top bar and choose the file. That skips the dialog and brings the model in with the standard settings.
Models with separate textures
A GLB carries its textures inside it, so it is the easiest format to bring in. An FBX, DAE or GLTF often keeps its textures in separate image files. Drop the model and its texture images together, or select them all in the file dialog, and Facet matches them up.
What comes with it
- Textures and materials. A model arrives with its own maps on it, and they show in the Material panel's Textures tab. Click one to grade it, or import over it to replace it. See Materials.
- Animation. Animation stored in a GLB or FBX plays in the scene, in the editor, in renders and on published pages.
- Parts. Double click a selected model to enter Edit mode and pick out its parts. Drag a Library material onto a part to give that part its own look.
Size limits
Models up to 100 MB can be imported on every plan. Larger files need Radiance.
When you publish, Facet makes a lighter copy of the model for embeds, with compressed geometry and smaller textures, so your page loads quickly. The editor and the share page keep the full quality model.
If a model looks wrong
- Black or blotchy: turn on Rebuild normals and import it again.
- Tiny or huge: turn on Normalize size.
- Floating or sunk into the floor: turn on Sit on the ground.
- A texture you added shows as one flat colour: the part has no texture coordinates. Turn on Generate UVs when missing.
